Stencil Workshops Gallery

Stencil painting is an accessible

introduction to aerosol art that

young people consistently enjoy

learning. It includes all the design and compositional aspects of large-scale painting, minus the daunting prospect of a giant blank wall.

Cutting stencils takes careful planning and patience, but is highly rewarding when the time comes for

the peeling off of the stencil to reveal the painting underneath.

Backgrounds can be sprayed freehand, outlines and decoration added with pens: it's all about experimentation with new and unfamiliar artisitic techniques. There

is no right or wrong way to do it and results are always as diverse as they are imaginative.

Taking home a finished piece of sprayed art, a 'mini mural' gives young people a strong sense of ownership of their growing abilites; displaying them on the wall of a youth project or school stands as a strong visual reminder of their achievements.
